The company recommends that customers check to make sure that their Mac does not already have the 802.11n enabler installed before purchasing the software patch. To do so, Intel Mac owners should open the \"Network Utility\" application (found in the Applications > Utilities folder), choose \"Network Interface (en1)\" under the \"Info\" tab, and then inspect the information provided under \"Model: Wireless Network Adapter.\" If it says \"(802.11a/b/g/n),\" the Mac already has the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), the Mac does not have the 802.11n enabler installed.

Apple also supports 802.11n on Macs starting with the Core 2 Duo-based models (some first require enabler software to be installed) -- with the exception of the iMac \"Core 2 Duo\" 1.83 17-Inch (IG). Apple has been laying its 802.11n groundwork for some time. Beginning with the Core 2 Duo line of Mac products, the company has been shipping most systems with draft 802.11n capability. Products such as the Core 2 Duo iMac, Mac Pros with the AirPort Extreme card option, and the Core 2 Duo MacBook and MacBook Pro already have 802.11n-ready adapters. Owners of current Core 2 Duo Macs will need to run the Apple 802.11n enabler software included with the base station.

Wireless-N (802.11n) networking support is enabled by default.
